Full time, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and on-call as needed
The City of Lancaster is seeking a well-qualified individual of the highest integrity to become its new Police Chief. This individual will, under little or no direct supervision, administer and oversee all operations of the Police Department. Supervise division commanders and other staff officers to ensure that law and order are maintained, laws and ordinances enforced, and that all departmental operations are properly maintained and implemented. The Police Chief hires, trains, assigns, direct, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Reports to the City Administrator.
Develops department's short and long term goals and objectives and develops and implements department policies and procedures. Supervises and participates in the development and administration of the department budget, and takes a proactive approach towards the needs of future staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies. Consults with the City Administrator and City government officials to determine department services and course of action. Assists with major criminal investigations and participates in law enforcement duties as necessary.
Performs a variety of public relations duties in order to establish and maintain community trust. Represents the department at public meetings and events. Attends City Council meeting and other task force meetings as necessary. Investigates complaints from the general public and reviews arrest and incident reports. Coordinates with neighboring law enforcement agencies regarding matters of public safety and assists in coordinating inter-jurisdictional matters. Receives, reviews, prepares, and submits a variety of records and reports.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Criminal Justice, with twelve years of experience in law enforcement, at least five of which have been at the management level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have successfully completed required courses through the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Criminal Justice Academy Division, and hold required certifications.
Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
Must maintain proficiency in the use of firearms and evasive driving techniques.
A commitment to reside within City of Lancaster incorporation limits.
Salary Range: $75,670 - $94,500 annually
