Business License Specialist, Town of Mount Pleasant

Position Category: Administration

Position Hours:
Full time, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

Job Duties:
  • Liaisons with Charleston County staff and business owners for all hospitality tax issues. Communicates in person, by phone, or mail, with businesses which are delinquent with hospitality taxes and/or business license taxes. Assists Business License Official in researching and compiling data requested by state, county, local authorities as well as law enforcement officials. Understands and explains the licensing requirements to include classification of business, reporting periods, and tax and penalty calculations.
  • Calculates and collects business license taxes and permit revenues in accordance with established policies and reporting requirements. Organizes and maintains hospitality tax documentation for the division. Manages license administration for commercial construction projects and is the primary contact for business license compliance issues. Ensures all commercial contractors and subcontractors working in the Town limits are properly licensed.
  • Collects and processes all information required by Town and State regulations in order to issue licenses and related documents for Christmas tree lots and fireworks stands, and precious metals permits. Compiles and monitors daily collections for monthly reports. Maintains business license files and compiles reports. Reconciles business license and permit collections for the Business License Official, as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Associate degree with major course work in Business Administration, Accounting or closely related field and three years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Business license training through the MASC BLOA program preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.

Pay Info:
19.19/hr
