Assistant to the Recreation Director, City of Lake City

Position Category: Parks/Recreation

Position Hours:
Full time, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with some work on weekends and evenings

Job Duties:
  • Directs, Reports, Supervises and Organizes for the overall operations of the Parks & Recreation Department. Oversees the operations of the recreation department, including buildings, parks, and athletic sports programs. Assist Recreation Director with any assigned duties at the Lake City Senior Center.
  • Assist director with the overall operations and functions of the recreation department. Screens volunteers and coaches for the recreation department. Assists with the budget preparation, makes purchases and reports for a comprehensive recreation program. Supervises recreation maintenance personnel. Organizes and coordinates special projects and events for the city. Supervise Senior Center maintenance staff when needed.

  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and accept responsibility. Must be willing to work long hours and or weekends when necessary. Must be willing to accept other duties as assigned. Must have strong tolerance for children. Must be able to carry out effective management process. Must have good public relation skills. Must be able to operate machinery such as tractors, mowers, field groomer, weed eaters and etc.
  • Must have valid S.C. Drivers License. CPR and First Aid Certification. Must be able to lift no more than 50 lbs. Physical Ability – the ability to sit continuously at a computer terminal for an extended period of time; ability to operate standard office equipment including copier, computer, fax machine, mailing machine, etc.; and the ability to reach into file drawers in standard four drawer filing cabinets. Visual Ability – Ability sufficient to effectively operate office equipment, including copier, computer, fax machine, etc. Hearing Ability -  Hearing ability sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals in both person and over the telephone. Speaking Ability -  Sufficient to communicate with other individuals in person and over a telephone.
  • Prefer a year college degree in recreation or related field from an accredited institution. Prefer three years of experience organizing and directing recreational programs. Must have one year of supervisory experience. Must have knowledge of sports in coaching and officiating.
