Building Permit and Business License Clerk, City of Folly Beach

Position Hours:
Full time, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday

Job Duties:
  • Intake and processing of all building permits and business license applications from receipt to distribution to applicants. Customer service, including cash receipting, general inquiries, and daily reconciliation.
  • Coordinating and scheduling of building inspections and communicating the results to the permit card holder.
  • Assistance with general utility billing inquiries (assisting the Utility Billing Clerk), administrative support to Public Works, Building Facilities Director and Planning Administrator. All other duties as assigned.

  • Prior experience with business licensing, permitting and construction, plan review preferred. Municipal government experience a plus. Successful applicant must obtain ICC certification as a Permit Technician within 1 year of hire.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe is necessary to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must have the ability to work as a team, resolving customer complaints and remaining flexible to assist in the overall City mission during times of natural disasters and emergencies as needed.

Pay Info:
The starting salary is $40K annually. The City participates in the SC PEBA Health and Retirement Benefits systems. The employee is offered 100% funded health insurance. Dependent coverage is available and a percentage is funded.
