Superintendent, Construction & Maintenance - Electric Division, City of Orangeburg, Department of Public Utilities

Position Hours:
Full time, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday

Job Duties:
  • Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work. Manages and coordinates the technical work of Distribution Plant Construction and Maintenance: coordinates the preparation of drawings, construction documents, and cost estimates; ensures each project has been verified and coordinated with the work of other sections; ensures all required approvals, codes, regulations, and contract requirements are received, complied with, and recorded; approves shop drawings; reviews and approves samples; approves and issues supplementary drawings.
  • Manages and coordinates distribution rights-of-way clearing and trimming: dispatches personnel; and monitors activities to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Manages, coordinates and participates in training for the Division. Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and supplies. Assists in developing, planning and implementing strategic plans, goals, and objectives for the division in the area of electric power delivery. Assists in developing budget for the division.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures. Maintains an awareness of new technologies, technical methods, trends, and advances in the profession. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures. Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices to enter, retrieve, review or modify data.

Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field required; supplemented by five years of experience in planning and designing electrical, mechanical, or communication systems, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Possession and maintenance of a South Carolina Professional Engineer’s license is preferred.
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as to electrical systems; and the ability to make independent decision in the design and layout of projects; to develop solutions to problems encountered during the design of projects; and to exchange ideas and give instructions in a clear legible and/or audible manner. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively.
