Assistant Claims Manager, Municipal Association of SC

Job Duties:
  • Reviews workers’ compensation and property and liability claims to ensure a high level of customer service and consistent application of department policies. Assists with supervision of mandatory Medicare reporting for both programs; Supervises adjusters and provides guidance in areas such as claims handling procedures and standards. In conjunction with the claims manager, establishes staffing standards, recommends selection, training, assigning and evaluating work performance; counseling; disciplining, etc.
  • Reviews, investigates, analyzes, and adjusts claims in accordance with current laws and regulations. Reviews progress of claims with members, providing a well-documented action plan and acting as a resource for claims questions and guidance.
  • Attends and participates in new member orientation

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of education in, insurance, risk management, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; Seven years of progressive experience in insurance claims management. Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred; Must possess a valid SC Claims Adjuster license and state driver’s license. AIC designation and/or public sector experience are preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment; proven ability to negotiate fair and equitable claims settlements; Proficient in maintaining complex electronic files and records in an online document management system.
  • Demonstrated above average interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and customer service skills, as well as written and verbal communication; Strong awareness of and ability to maintain confidentiality; Ability to balance multiple priorities.
