Engineer – Electric Division, Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities

This full-time position provides technical and engineering expertise in planning, designing, construction and maintenance of transmission lines, pole upgrades and rebuilds, distribution projects, and construction projects for the department of public utilities.
- Prepares plans and designs for transmission lines/pole upgrades and rebuilds; prepares drawings for transmission pole replacements; transmission lines design, staking and construction for new substations; construction documents and cost estimates for each project; designs and reviews designs for re-conductor and pole placement on oldest sections of 46 kV and 115kV transmission lines; and reviews and redesigns plans for rebuild of all 46 kV and 115kV substation structures.
- Reviews, modifies, and creates standards for electric distribution line construction projects for 25kV, 8.32kV, 46kV and 115kV line constructions; and all electrical material and equipment listed in inventory
Analyzes survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical data to plan projects: surveys UG feed paths for project risers; reviews sub packer shop drawings; reviews and modifies UG conduit drawings; reviews grounding grid specifications; reviews cable trench installation; and inspects according to specifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field required; supplemented by five years of experience in planning and designing electrical, mechanical or communication systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies
- Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Possession and maintenance of a South Carolina Professional Engineer's license is preferred
Must have an understanding of engineering theories and principles, and practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations; must be able to operate a computer and/or tablet to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, e-mail, or other software; and must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all city or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position
