Engineering Technician, City of Myrtle Beach

Position Category: Public Works

Job Duties:
  • Reviews private residential and commercial building development plans for compliance with City Codes, Department Requirements, City Objectives and State Regulations; including but not limited to water service, sewer service and stormwater requirements. Reviews residential accessory structures such as sheds, fences, patios, pools, etc. to ensure improvements do not impact public utilities. Determines water and sewer impact and tap fees and other applicable charges for new development and redevelopment.
  • Utilizes GIS and CADD software to prepared map exhibits showing public infrastructure and parcel lines to provide to contractors and consultants as requested. Reviews right-of-way encroachment requests from utility companies to utilize public right-of-ways for cable, power, gas, etc. Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, construction as-builts, drawings, restrictive covenants, annexation petitions, water/sewer meter applications, manuals, directories, reference materials, or other documentation related to site development, plan reviews and regulatory permitting.
  • Coordinates water and sewer service locations for new residential and commercial construction; assist contractors with locations of existing water and sewer service lines. Provides information and technical assistance concerning code requirements; discusses property concerns with residents and contractors; makes suggestions and recommends solutions to problems; responds to questions or complaints concerning building codes or code violations.

Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree with course work emphasis in civil engineering; one year of experience in computer mapping, and general engineering; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Pay Info:
$53,241.58 annually
