Water/Sewer Maintenance Technician Senior, City of Myrtle Beach

Position Category: Public Works

Job Duties:
  • Inspects water and well storage sites; drains, flushes, and fills water storage tanks; retrieves and tests water samples; maintains related documentation. Installs, maintains, and/or repairs water and sewer lines, meters, water taps, water and sewer fittings, sump pumps, chemical pumps, manholes, collars and valve markers, backflow preventers, water sample stations, shower towers, fire hydrants, or other items as necessary.
  • Adheres to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; wears protective gear.
  • Assists in water and sewer utility locates; utilizes computer software; maps related water connections; makes corrections and updates to maps as needed; maintains related documentation. Receives and completes work orders; gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies; cleans and washes equipment and tools; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools, equipment and vehicles; and notifies supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in water and sewer maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. May be required to obtain and maintain the following licenses and certifications: Class "B" Water Distribution, Backflow Prevention, and Asbestos.
