2011 Smart Growth and Sustainable Site Design Conference

The Town of Blythewood, in partnership with the Midlands Technical College Northeast Campus/Center of Excellence for Technology, the Municipal Association of South Carolina, and Sustainable Design Consultants, invites you to our second biannual Smart Growth and Sustainable Site Design Conference 2011.

Hear and learn from an interdisciplinary cast of southeastern design professionals, practitioners, and professors about the convergence of smart growth, new urbanism, green infrastructure, low impact development, and green building, with a focus on sustainable site design and the science of stormwater management.

Our speakers will present both planning principles and design practices for sustainable community development, with lessons learned from real-world development projects.  Session topics include:

  • The shift in American demographics and the development marketplace
  • Smart growth and new urbanist planning principles
  • Regional growth tools for sustainable development
  • Green infrastructure project designs
  • Using form-based codes
  • Light Imprint vs. Low Impact Development
  • Stormwater best management practices research and case studies
  • The financial advantages of sustainable site design
  • Stormwater engineering design tools
  • Engaging citizens in sustainable practices

South Carolina Planning Education Advisory Committee continuing education credit hours are now available for local government planning or zoning officials or employees, up to a total of three credit hours per person.
 
South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors professional development hours are now available for licensed engineers and surveyors.
 
American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System learning units are now available for licensed architects and AIA members. These learning units qualify under health, safety and welfare as well as sustainable design.
 
Green Building Certification Institute continuing education hours for LEED Green Associates and LEED Accredited Professionals are being requested for some of the sessions.
