The Municipal Association, the SC Chapter of the American Planning Association and SC Association of Regional Councils recognize the importance of training local government planning commissions, boards of zoning appeals and architectural review, as well as staff who directly or indirectly work with planning officials. As partners, all three associations are pleased to provide training for these officials and staff members as set forth by the SC Planning Education Advisory Committee in Article 9 of the SC Code of Laws.
The training is mandatory for local government planning commissions, boards of zoning appeals and architectural review, as well as staff who directly or indirectly work with planning officials. The consequence for not attending this mandatory training is severe. An appointed official can be removed from office, and a professional employee can be suspended or dismissed.
The partnership developed a six-hour curriculum provided in one-hour sessions. These training sessions are interactive and include video delivered via PowerPoint presentations.
In order for participants to receive certification credit from the Municipal Association, facilitators must order participant packets from the Association.
If a local government, planning official or staff member misplaces a certificate, contact Lea Ann Mitchell (803.933.1254) or the facilitator of the training session for a replacement.
