The South Carolina Municipal Insurance Trust has a grant program designed to help fire departments purchase personal protective equipment. Members may apply for reimbursement of up to 50 percent of the cost of the equipment purchased, not to exceed a maximum benefit of $2,000 per member per year. The SCMIT board of trustees allocated $80,000 for the 2016 year.

Program Requirements
To apply for the matching grant, the member must provide the following: 

  1. A completed SCMIT grant application.  

  2. Submit evidence of product/equipment purchase during the grant period January 1, 2016 to December 12, 2016. A copy of a dated invoice from the vendor is sufficient for meeting this requirement.

Submitting a grant application does not guarantee funding. It only indicates your desire to participate. Grant awards will be made on a first-come, first-served basis (determined by the order in which we receive reimbursement requests).

Once funding is depleted, there will be no additional reimbursements. This means that the depletion may occur prior to the December 12, 2016 deadline.
