Mandatory audits for victim assistance funds

State law mandates the State Office of  Victim Assistance to conduct pro-grammatic reviews on any entity or nonprofit organization receiving victim assistance funding.

The audits help ensure crime victim funds are spent in accordance with the law.

If SOVA finds errors during the audit, the entity has 90 days to correct the problems or face a penalty.

In addition, each local entity and nonprofit receiving funding from the victim assistance funds must submit its budget to SOVA within 30 days of the budget’s approval.
