Engineer - Firefighter II , Town of Surfside Beach
Performs station duties and apparatus checks per SOGs or as instructed to ensure that all equipment is ready to respond to emergencies. Drives, positions, operates fire apparatus in accordance with principles of hydraulics, deploys and connects hoses, assures proper pump pressure, operates nozzles, and directs water stream at fire emergencies. Performs search and rescue operations to prevent injury and loss of life, performs firefighting tasks to isolate and suppress involved areas to prevent loss of property.
Performs ventilation in burning buildings, salvage operations, and preserves evidence to determine the cause of fire. Responds to medical calls and provides initial care for victims until relieved. Attends and participates in training and instruction drills. Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire department property. Assumes command at fire, emergencies and or special assignment until relieved by senior officer
Supervises and assists in the training of personnel in firefighting. Conducts follow up inspections as assigned by the Fire Marshall. Other duties may be assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a South Carolina CDL or Class E Driver License. Five years of experience in firefighting. Ability to pass background check, drug, and alcohol screening as well as medical and physical examinations.
Ability to comprehend and communicate both oral and written instructions. Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to work effectively with the public, fellow employees, other agencies and departments. Ability to exercise independent judgment within the limits of the position and perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession. Must have computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
Certificates / Licenses / Registrations Fire Fighter I and II – IFSAC or Pro Board Pump Operations – IFSAC or Pro Board Aerial Operations – IFSAC or Pro Board Emergency Vehicle Driver Training NIMS – ICS (100, 200, 700, 800) South Carolina Certified EMT or National Registered EMT.
