Job Duties

Responsible for inspecting new and existing structures for compliance with established building and other pertinent codes. Examines architectural drawings to ensure conformance to related codes.

Performs field inspections and plan review for building, plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical systems on commercial and residential construction projects to ensure building code compliance and construction in line with approved plans.

Interprets adopted codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications related to construction projects. Advises owner, builder or superintendent of corrections needed and performs re-inspections as required. Enters/updates inspections and results into the City’s data management system and ensures record accuracy for permits and daily inspections.

Qualifications

High school graduate with some vocational school education or education regarding building codes as required from study courses or seminars and one to two years of experience in construction or some related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must possess or be able to obtain within two years of employment International Code Council certificates in Residential Plumbing, Residential Electrical, Residential Mechanical and Residential Building.

Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license.
