The Municipal Association of South Carolina was recognized with six awards for communications projects at this week's Mercury Awards hosted by the SC Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
The Municipal Association represents the state's 271 cities and towns providing education and training, advocacy and other services to support the efficient and effective operation of city government.
Winning projects include:
From the Dome to Your Home - The weekly legislative report gives readers a quick look at the past week's activities at the State House. It is written in short easy-to-read blurbs with links to deeper content on individual issues.
Achievement Award Video - The Association's Achievement Awards program recognizes excellence in local government programs, and publicizes the value of cities and towns to their residents and businesses.
City Connect - The Municipal Association blog is an additional forum for multi-purposing content for local officials. The goal is to repackage existing content and deliver it in a different way to give the Association another avenue to reach readers.
Cities Mean Business magazine - The Municipal Association of SC publishes a bi-annual magazine as an advertorial in a statewide business publication as one tactic in a multi-year campaign to communicate the value of South Carolina cities and towns to the state's economic development efforts.
Executive Director Retirement Video - The long-time executive director of the Municipal Association received a memorable send-off upon her retirement with a humorous video produced with the feel of "The Office" to poke fun at her pet peeves and personal preferences.
Changing the narrative of a legislative debate - The Municipal Association of SC successfully changed the narrative and the outcome of a legislative debate over an issue critically important to cities and towns by strategically engaging members, media and third party endorsements.
