The House of Representatives met this week in regular session but concentrated work in committee and subcommittee meetings on the state budget. The Senate did not meet in statewide session, but also concentrated its work in subcommittee and committee meetings. Both the House and Senate will reconvene next week.
Criminal Justice Academy testifies at subcommittee hearing
Chief Jackie Swindler, director of the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy, testified in front of the House Ways and Means Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice budget subcommittee this week. Chief Swindler requested recurring, line item funding for the academy in the state general fund. The Municipal Association included this budget request in its 2017 Advocacy Initiatives to support the academy in its education and training of law enforcement officers. Hometown Legislative Action Day is Wednesday, February 1, at the Marriott in Columbia. Registration and hotel information are available now. The preregistration deadline was Wednesday, but onsite registration will be available.
